Bariatric not only applies to weight but also size. When a bed is needed other than a standard hospital bed of 36" it is automatically put into the Bariatric category. If you are a Hospital, Sleep Center, Nursing Facility or a Caregiver the problem is very real. A certain percentage of your patients will be this overweight patient and need special Bariatric equipment for the daily tasks of living. I have taken the time to research and gather the basic equipment that we all take for granted.

Hospital Beds

Hospital Beds with as much as 1200 pounds weight capacity. Hopefully you will never have to deal with that weight patient. Most Medical Facilities are upgrading their equipment just in case they have a seriously overweight patient. There are low beds that have an 800 lb weight capacity (8” from deck to floor) and will rise to 24”, then add the height of the mattress. Other beds can also be used as Gurneys, expand from 39” in width to 48”. Hospital Beds with and without Trendelenberg, Reverse and Cardio Chair options. There are different widths to Queen Size and different lengths. There are Overhead Trapezes attached to the bed, Battery Backups, Scales and many other options. Did you want the patient to exit from the foot of the bed? This feature is also available on some of our beds. Whatever your needs, we have the answer.

There are many different bed choices depending upon the manufacturer. Mattresses A special mattress designed for Facilities, Long Term Care and Sleep Centers that has a weight capacity of 750 lbs or 850 lbs and is constructed so that the mattress is comfortable for any weight patient.

The Transfer Master New Valiant Hi-Lo Bed fits attractively into any home. The Valiant operates with four independent CSA-US approved motors allowing the bed to rise in multiple positions Bariatric not only applies to weight but also size. When a bed is needed other than a standard hospital bed of 36" it is automatically put into the Bariatric category.

When it comes to Bariatric Hospital Beds, a heavy duty extra wide hospital bed is covered if the patient meets one of the criteria for a fixed height hospital bed and the patient's weight is more than 350 pounds, but does not exceed 600 pounds.

An extra heavy-duty hospital bed is covered if the patient meets one of the criteria for a hospital bed and the patient's weight exceeds 600 pounds.

The Original Transfer Master

In 1969 man first landed on the moon, 24 years later we figured out how to independently transfer in and out of bed. The patented Original Transfer Master Hi-Low was the first bed built to help with transfers.

The standard minimum height (from the top of the mattress to the floor) is 18 inches, allowing for easy transfers from most wheelchairs. The Hi-Low mechanism allows the bed to raise 12 inches to enable an easy transfer back to the chair and to simplify care-giving tasks. The head and foot sections rise higher than what you find in standard home care beds.

The Original Transfer Master Hi-Low Bed was designed to look like home furniture yet maintain all of the functions of a clinical bed. Typical home care beds are designed exclusively for the nurses. The Original improves on this by meeting the needs of both the user and the rest of the family.

Each Original is custom designed to meet your specific needs. No other bed or any other company offers this level of flexibility.

You can choose from standard widths such as Twin, Full or a Queen size,or we can finish the bed to your specification. You determine the length whether it is standard, extra long or super long. This is only the beginning of the choices. You then choose the minimum height of the bed (beginning at 18"), the finish of the mattress and a range of controls and options. If you are using a lift, you can order an optional package to allow clearance for any "Hoyer" type system.

Our orthopedic mattresses offer superb comfort. For extra sensitive needs, we offer an optional Memory Foam Pillow Pad Overlay.

Old-fashioned craftsmanship is evident in each bed that we build. The Originals stamped, welded, powder-coated and final assembled in the state of Iowa. Each part is overbuilt to assure a long and useful life. Parts are either bolted or welded together to insure the product's integrity.

The Valiant Series

Every year we receive thousands of phone calls seeking a variety of special requirements. Despite the tremendous success of the Original,we could not meet all of the diverse requests with one model. In 1995 we added the Transfer Master Plus. The more affordable Valiant Series later replaced the Plus in 1998.

The Valiant Adjustable Hi-Low Bed has the advantage of offering three versions for any weight requirement. The standard model handles up to 300 pounds, the enhanced HD model can support 600 pounds, and the super heavy duty SHD has a weight capacity of 750 pounds.

These beds fit attractively into any home yet meet the strict requirements for many assisted living facilities. While the Original features an upholstered foundation, the Valiant's foundation is a powder coated MDF Board, which has been treated with an antimicrobial agent(easy to clean and affordable).

The Valiant operates with four independent CSA-US approved motors allowing the bed to rise in multiple positions such as: head and foot articulation, Hi-Low, Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg.

The Valiant's standard minimum height ranges from 20-22 inches from the top of the mattress to the floor depending on the model. The Valiant rises 10-12 inches from there, depending on the model. All Valiant models are compatible with most "Hoyer" type systems. Each bed comes standard with an orthopedic mattress upholstered in cloth (moisture proof finishes are available as an upgrade).

The Companion, a head and foot adjustable bed is identical in style and a perfect complement to the Valiant. This bed is often ordered in a Dual King with the Valiant.

Beds from Wheelchairs of Kansas are "True Bariatric Beds". The Diamond Homecare and the Mighty Rest hospital beds are built from the ground-up to specifically meet the needs of the bariatric patient. Our beds are not standard beds modified to be bariatric beds, but rather they are designed, engineered and manufactured to meet bariatric requirements.

WOK bariatric beds feature an industry leading low position of 13.5" and high position of 30". These positioning heights allow for easy side exit from the beds at 13.5" while at the same time allowing a secure care giver height of 30".

Air Support Hospital Bed Mattresses from Wheelchairs of Kansas is designed specifically for the bariatric patient. The WOK air hospital bed mattress has a 1000 lbs. capacity and is designed to accommodate bed frames of 39", 48", 54" & 60" widths. The hospital bed mattress operates in Alternating or Static Low-Air Loss modes. The alternation mode features a 1 in 3 alternation.

In 1996, it was decided to expand the VÖLKNER^® TURNING SYSTEM equipment line and to add a full mattress replacement to the existing turning mattress overlay, incorporating exactly the same successful technology used in the Mark I unit. The height of the turning air chambers, side bolsters, and the stationary air mattress was increased.

The unit is the VÖLKNER^® TURNING SYSTEM Mark II low air loss Mattress Replacement. The turning angle on the Mark II is up to forty (40) degrees instead of the thirty (30) degrees on the Mark I Mattress Overlay.

In 1998, in response to requests for an even more cost effective unit to accompany the existing VÖLKNER^® TURNING SYSTEM Mark I Mattress Overlay and VÖLKNER^® TURNING SYSTEM Mark II Mattress Replacement, the VÖLKNER^® TURNING SYSTEM EUROPA™ Mattress Overlay was introduced.

This has the same high quality construction as do the other units. However, it operates only in the Turning and Alternating Pressure modes and it does not have low air loss.

The Lift & Transfer by Wheelchairs of Kansas is the traditional style, portable lift constructed of heavy-duty steel. The easy rolling casters allows to position the lift into varies locations with all six that swival. The lift is operated by a four-button hand control and a linear driven actuator that is practically silent. For added safety the emergency release allows the individual to be lowered when battery powered is interrupted.
